"L' Enfer de Henri-Georges Clouzot Inferno" Trailer

I suppose this is mostly Clouzot's unfinished footage that this documentary, premiering at Toronto, will deal with. Whatever it is, its completely ravishing.

Richard Kelly's "The Box" Trailer

Here it is folks. The official trailer for Richard Kelly's new movie The Box. After the critical derision that swamped Southland Tales (albeit very acclaimed in my eyes to the heralds of Hoberman, Lee, and Taubin – who else do you need?), I was wondering where Kelly would go next. Apparently back to death and the end of the world is the likely answer. I think this trailer is fascinating for a few reasons, despite the music overkill at the end. I love the hazy cinematography on top of all those "beautiful people." Perhaps it will end up being relatively commercial compared to Kelly's previous features, but lets hope it takes a heavier slant to the strange where his previous works have had their greatest successes. I'm in for it. How about you?

And here is the rest of it. Continue reading...

"Bruno" Red Band Trailer

This trailer is getting pulled left and right, but maybe this one will last long enough for some people to see. I'm a big defender of Borat so I have to say I'm really looking forward to this. I've always been partial to the Borat character over the others from Da Ali G Show, but there is always plenty to work with when you put real people in unexpected situations. Discussions of Cohen's methods are sure to arise again, just as they did when Borat made a big splash in 2006, but we'll save those for down the road. For now, here's the red band trailer for Bruno.

"Hearts and Minds" Re-Release Trailer

Hearts and Minds, Peter Davis's Oscar wining documentary which explores the various atrocities of the Vietnam War, is being rereleased. The new trailer can be found here. With a new restoration, Hearts and Minds will be well worth (re)visiting not only for its historically emotional resonance, but also for its ever expanding pertinence. It opens in New York on March 20 with a national rollout planned for April. Wherever you are, it is not to be missed.

"Crank 2: High Voltage" Trailer

Here it is...the trailer you've all been waiting for!!! Well, maybe not, but there is something fascinating about this series, you've got to admit. This sequel especially reminds me of this film I saw a few years called Nowhere Man about a guy who wakes up and discovers his penis has been "stolen." Rather than attach an artificial one, he seeks out the men (and woman) who took it from him. It wasn't well made enough to be as fun as it sounds, but I'm hoping Crank 2 is. Crank was some sort of fun, but had too many down moments and, oddly enough, not enough narrative adrenaline to keep it going for its short running time. I'm keeping the faith that Statham can take the energy to 11 for this one and make it...electric.

"Last House on the Left" Trailer

I know a lot of people aren't into the classic horror film remakes, but I think this trailer for the new Last House on the Left is uber-weird and totally solid. Count me in.

Official "Che" Trailer

Here's the official trailer from IFC Films for Che. As you all might remember from my NYFF write-ups (here: a review, here: my festival top 10), I liked this film quite a lot and am really looking forward to revisiting it. I would strongly recommend the road-show version (i.e. the two parts put together) if you have that opportunity. If you need to see it split up (or just don't like sitting in one place for 268 minutes) I would either do the films back to back or, at the most, a night or two apart. And, assuming I don't do a complete 180 (a rare occurrence), this will undoubtedly be in my top 5 or 10 of this year.

"The Wrestler" Trailer

I'm sure most of you have seen this trailer by now, but I wanted to post it in case you hadn't. I am also hoping to hear what you all think of it. Having seen the film already, I have some thoughts about what they are showing and what they aren't, but I don't want to go spoiler-tastic here. Just wondering how it looks from a different perspective... What do you think?

GB Jones's "The Lollipop Generation" Trailer

Here's a trailer for GB Jones's new film The Lollipop Generation. Jones has been working on the film for over a decade and it is set to make its NY Premiere at The Light Industry on December 16th and 8 PM. More information can be found on Light Industry's site, but, for the sake of clarity, I'll just post the description of the film here so you might have some idea whats going on in the trailer. Maybe it's just because I am currently writing my MA Thesis on pornography (among other things) but this looks fantastic. Hoorah for Super-8!

Extended Trailer for Bruce La Bruce's "Otto; Or, Up With Dead People"

Embedded is an extended trailer for Bruce LaBruce's "post gay zombie movie" Otto; Or, Up With Dead People which opens at the IFC Center this weekend in New York. A better quality trailer can be found on the film's website, but I was always like embedding when possible. For a little more on the film, Nathan Lee has blogged about why the film has been on his mind at WNYC.

ADULT.'s "Decampment" Trailer

Is anyone more familiar with these musicians or artists than I am? Looks to be one of the truly unique horror movie experiences ("midwestern horror" at that) you'll find in New York this fall. The film screens at Anthology Film Archives on October 16th at 9 and 11 PM.

"Hunger" Trailer

To keep you all interested while I attempt to catch up on writing about all the films I have seen at NYFF thus far (expect my first entry in the next couple days...I've been sick and have fallen WAY behind on writing) here is a trailer for British video artist Steve McQueen's first feature Hunger which won the Camera d'Or at this years Cannes Film Festival and will show at the festival this week. I saw the film at a press screening last week, but you'll have to check back later this week for my second NYFF Entry to hear what I think. Oh, the anticipation!

"Changeling" Trailer

One of the trailers I have really been anxious to see. Does it have Oscar written all over it? Or will it suffer from being so obvious that Oscar is written all over it?

"Miracle at St. Anna" Trailer

Thoughts? Reactions? I tend to like Spike Lee, although I found Inside Man a bit too standard. This seems to be a pretty typical war movie, but I am pretty intrigued by it all the same.

PS- A DVD of the Week entry is on the way...sorry for the delay! It's a busy week...

I won't give away the surprise of this strange looking British film by putting the title on here. Feel free to discuss in the comments section. Question of the day regarding this movie: how many people can actually take this seriously?

"W." Trailer

Seems like there have been a lot of new trailers coming out lately worth everyone's attention. I don't know if this one necessarily fits into that category, but this, nevertheless, is sure to be talked about a lot, even if it barely seen. Honestly, I'm sort of fascinated and curious about this film. Ridiculous as it may look, cinema rarely tackles legacies so shortly after the events take place. People may be ready to smear President Bush, but the film is still somewhat of an anomaly. Oliver Stone seems ready to broach any and all subject matter. It might help mediocre films get extra attention, but they still create some sort of benchmark for discussion on the subjects that Stone tackles. The trailer is no knock out, but it will give the rabble-rousers, and everyone else, plenty to talk about.

"Ashes of Time Redux" Trailer

Here is a link to the premiere trailer of the highly anticipated Redux of Wong Kar Wai's Ashes of Time. I've heard a lot about this since its premiere at Cannes and can't wait to see this for the first time. The last Redux I remember seeing was of Apocalypse Now, which I was not a fan of (the redux, that is...the original is brilliant.) It may help that I'm not familiar with the original Ashes of Time (yet), but I think this looks really outstanding.
