"W." Trailer

Seems like there have been a lot of new trailers coming out lately worth everyone's attention. I don't know if this one necessarily fits into that category, but this, nevertheless, is sure to be talked about a lot, even if it barely seen. Honestly, I'm sort of fascinated and curious about this film. Ridiculous as it may look, cinema rarely tackles legacies so shortly after the events take place. People may be ready to smear President Bush, but the film is still somewhat of an anomaly. Oliver Stone seems ready to broach any and all subject matter. It might help mediocre films get extra attention, but they still create some sort of benchmark for discussion on the subjects that Stone tackles. The trailer is no knock out, but it will give the rabble-rousers, and everyone else, plenty to talk about.

I actually saw this for the first time on another site last night - nice timing. I've been tracking this film with morbid curiosity since I first heard about it. I don't see it being good - but it has my attention.

My initial impression after watching the trailer is, like a lot of Stone films, the film sounds overwritten. After that, I wondered why they didn't just abandon the notion of the actors resembling their real-life counterparts... Some look vaguely similar, but this only calls attention to those who look either (a) nothing like the person they're playing, or (b) the way they normally look, but with a bad wig.

Probably not a good thing when my initial thoughts about a trailer have almost nothing to do with the movie.

Yeah...the character portraits will be strange, I think, because everyone knows exactly what these people look and sound like. It's not like doing a biopic of a singular figure...every damn person in the movie is under the same criticism.

I've never been a big Stone fan and certainly haven't been a fan of late...I doubt this will turn things around, but at least it will be a fun watch for its easy to laugh at heavy-handedness and depiction of everyone's favorite fishing buddy. It was a little harder to take the same attitude into something like "World Trade Center" which was mediocre and overwritten all the same.

It's just like Nixon, only much much worse.

(Now what am I talking about... a relative comparison of Oliver Stone movies, or a relative comparison of presidential legacies.)

I like Stone for the most part so I am really curious about this film...surprised by the tone of this first trailer though.

Also James,
I tagged you and Brandon with a fun meme at Moon...join in only if you would like to.

I also find it wierd when movies "tackle legacies so shortly after the events take place."

Even The Queen took some getting used to for me, but this takes it to a whole new level.
