Short Films You Must See: "All The Boys Are Called Patrick" (Jean Luc Godard, 1959)

A fun early short here directed by JLG and written by Eric Rohmer. Certainly not his best work, but it is characteristic of things to come. Part one is on top followed by part two.

Whoa! That's actually from my YouTube account! Now I'm like a celebrity with the Out 1 crowd now. Victory is mine!

In all seriousness, All the Boys Are Called Patrick is a pretty darn delightful film. Flawed, yes, but certainly sowing the seeds of the greatness to come.

Yea that's a fun one, it's also on the Criterion DVD of A Woman is a Woman if you want to see it in better quality.

My favorite of Godard's early shorts is Une histoire d'eau, which is probably the only one of his early films that points forward to the formal qualities of his later work, especially in the tension between soundtrack and image. The other early shorts are mostly just fun and cute.
