Thanks to everyone for voting in our most recent (and wildly successful) poll. This is by far the most votes we have ever had in a poll here. We want to thank everyone for coming to the site and voting, and we all truly hope you'll stick around and keep coming back to see what we have to offer. Lynch is certainly one of the major directors who has influenced and inspired each of the writers at this site. So many of his movies have been so great, so I know many people had a tough time picking just one of these features. In the end, though, it was Lynch's last filmic feature that ran away with this poll. Thanks to everyone and on with the poll results!
Which is your favorite David Lynch feature?
Eraserhead- 14 (10%)
The Elephant Man- 2 (1%)
Dune- 5 (3%)
Blue Velvet- 24 (18%)
Wild At Heart- 1 (0%)
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me- 3 (2%)
Lost Highway- 10 (7%)
The Straight Story- 7 (5%)

Anticipated Winter Films Poll
Thanks to everyone for voting in our most recent poll regarding which films you are most looking forward to this winter. Its the most votes we have ever had for a poll! Although lots of people are saying this is a weak year for film (and I tend to agree as far as American cinema has gone) but it can turn around very quickly with the release of some of these films this winter, assuming that they don't get pushed back. Now that several other films have popped to prominence, some titles are notably absent, but this covers the bulk of the mainstream fare. I'm not really surprised by the films with the most votes, but was a bit surprised by the lack of votes for several Hollywood films that have some significant buzz. Just says something about our readership...and its something I am quite happy about. Thanks again for voting! On with the results!
Which films that open this winter are you most looking forward to?
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button- 31 (54%)
The Wrestler- 30 (52%)
Milk- 24 (42%)
Che- 20 (35%)
Synedoche, New York- 20 (35%)
The Road- 17 (29%)
W.- 16 (28%)
Australia- 14 (24%)
Quantum of Solace- 12 (21%)
Revolutionary Road- 9 (15%)
Changeling- 8 (14%)
Doubt- 6 (10%)
Frost/Nixon- 6 (10%)
Slumdog Millionaire- 5 (8%)
Valkyrie- 5 (8%)

Darren Aronofsky Poll Results
Thanks to everyone for voting in our most recent poll selecting your favorite Darren Aronofsky film so far. The poll was inspired by Aronofsky's soon to be released new film The Wrestler, which is the Closing Night film at this year's New York Film Festival. I saw the film this week and, to really get the buzz really going, I have to say that The Wrestler is his most simple, straight-forward film but also his strongest. (Note that I voted for Pi in the poll as I find Requiem to be a one-time, one-trick pony and The Fountain totally ridiculous. I'm not saying that to knock The Wrestler though. Just admitting that I have liked simple more than flashy Aronofsky, and that trend for me here.) I'll save further analysis and discussion for my NYFF write-up and for when the film opens in wide release December 19th. I don't want to raise everyone's expectations too much, but The Wrestler is, without a doubt, one of the strongest American movies this year and should be a sure-fire Oscar contender.
Now on with the poll results! It was surprising to me how well The Fountain did in the poll (almost pulling a major upset!) Apparently many of them film's (small number of) advocates are dedicated readers here! Or am I just being mean? Do more people out there like The Fountain than I think? Even though I don't like that film at all, I'm glad you are all here reading and voting! We had one big time lover and hater of Aronofsky, which are always fun votes to see as well. Anyways, I'll stop explaining the results. You can see them yourself after the break.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DARREN ARONOFSKY FILM THUS FAR?
Pi- 8 (20%)
Requiem for a Dream- 16 (41%)
The Fountain- 13 (33%)
I don't like any of them- 1 (2%)
I love all of them- 1 (2%)

NYFF 2008 Coverage Poll
Hey everyone! Before I start my coverage of the New York Film Festival, whose press screenings started this week and I am lucky enough to be able to attend, I wanted to hear from all of you about what kind of coverage you would like to see. Although doing individual reviews of all the films I see will be quite impossible (there are 28 features in the main slate and I plan on seeing most of them), I am happy to aim to do more of individual reviews if that is what you all would rather see. Please vote in the poll as soon as possible, as I have already been to three screenings and am going toa fourth this afternoon. The first post of my coverage should be up on Friday. Also, feel free to look at the lineup online and request specific reviews that you would like to see. I'd be happy to oblige to writing about some of the films you most want to hear about.
Thanks to everyone in advance for voting! I just want to make sure that we target the site to your interests and make the festival coverage as solid as possible, without giving away everything before some of the films open up nationwide.
-James

Thanks to everyone for voting in our most recent poll regarding how often we should post an overlooked DVD of the week. I wasn't sure if people were enjoying them every week or if perhaps it should be scaled back.

We're doing our best to shape the site to our reader's interests. If anyone ever has feedback or comments, please feel free to contact me, and please keep voting in the polls when they come up!

Jacques Rivette Poll Results
Hello all.
It appears that we are still having some issues with the site, which can only be traced back to Blogspot since I have not changed the template, html, or anything since the problems began. Hopefully everything will work itself out and everything will be back on track soon. I am also have issues having the "continue reading" labels appear below some of our longer posts, but, as you all know, if you click on the titles the entire articles will appear.
I think out hiatus has hurt our readership a little, as the results from our Jacques Rivette poll were much lower than I would like. If you are a new reader, thank you for coming! Please make us a regular stop on your internet reading! If you are an older regular reader, we appreciate your continued support. Please do all you can to get word back to people we have lost that Out 1 is back in full swing with some of the best full reviews you can find anywhere on the "blogosphere."
And now...onto the results!
HOW MANY JACQUES RIVETTE FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN?
0............................................12 (48 %)
1-2 ........................................ 4 (16 %)
3-4........................................ 2 (8 %)
5-6 ....................................... 3 (12 %)
7-8......................................... 3 (12%)
9-10....................................... 1 (4%)
The moral of this poll...everyone who visits the site should vote in the polls, and go see more Rivette films!

Out 1 Feedback Poll
Hello to everyone out there! I am sure you all noticed the new polls that are up right now, but I want to especially encourage all regular visitors to the site (and everyone else) to weigh in on the grading system poll. As we continue to bring you the best analysis possible, we have to consider the best way to deliver it, and part of that is the framework of a ratings system. While many critics use grades or stars to label their feelings alongside their reviews, there is another side that just wants have their pieces and not limit films to a grading scale. Although the opinions of the writers here at Out 1 may differ on the issue, we are set to deliver what all of you want (although we certainly hope you are reading the pieces and not just looking at grades...they take a long time to write!) So I urge you all to PLEASE vote in the poll and let us know whether you like the use of grades or not. Your feedback and support is what will continue to make Out 1 one of the best film sites out there. Help us out by letting us know what you like, and be sure and keep telling your friends!
Thanks so much to everyone for keeping the site going strong!
-James
PS- If you want to have a discussion on the issue, please use the comments section. Any kind of discourse on the subject will really help us out.

Oscar Poll Madness
In order to juice things up for the Oscars, and with the WGA Strike reportedly settled, there are 4 new polls up (one for each of the 4 most major categories) that everyone should vote in so that we can create Out 1's 2008 Reader's Choice Oscars. Each of the polls expires when the Oscars begin on February 24th. Immediately following the announcements of the "real" Oscars (and our sure-to-be-amazing live blogging of it), we will post the Out 1 Reader's Choices for what should have won the Oscars and see if they fall in line with what was actually selected.
Thanks in advance for your votes! Remember, you can change your vote up until the 24th based on new revelations or catching up on all of the films. Happy voting!

That said, our most recent poll has ended in voting for the best English language director to never win an Oscar. It was a really close vote between the top two vote getters. Oscars Snub Poll, Director Style
Announcing our new poll for the greatest English language director never to win an Oscar. We have decided to limit the voting to those who have never won anything, honorary Oscars included. This limits the choices much more and even though Honorary Oscars are throwing a bone to people, it is better than nothing.
Also, get ready for Out 1's Top 10 Films of the Year coming out at some point (likely late) tomorrow! We will have four different lists from each of our writers. Get excited! And as always, if you vote 'Other' on the poll, please write some comments on what your choice was. And make sure that they have not won an Oscar before your 'Other' vote (a quick IMDB search oughta do it!)
Thanks so much for voting! Keep on telling your friends about us!

Overrated Film Poll
In celebration of a new year of movies and the upcoming awards season, it is time to reflect on the year of movies that has passed. While we all rush out to try and piece together top ten lists (expect to see ours in a couple weeks...gotta give us time to see everything!), at the same time we can look at the movies wwe expected a lot out of that didn't quite deliver. The new poll is to vote for the most overrated film of 2007. Feel free to use the comments section of this post to lobby, explain, and argue before the final vote is tallied on January 15th.
Happy election season and happy new year!
